Legends of the Game

2020-07-06

So, I will be wrapping up my OTHL Preview Project and moving on to who are the best players in our league. As you can imagine, this project will take a couple of months to research. When the project is completed, we will know who the top 25 players are in each of the following categories: Career Numbers in Goals, Assists, Points, and PIM. Right now, Matt has those numbers per season. In addition, I have also included top 25 Career Goals and Points in the playoffs. One other category wil be which player has won the most Stanley Cups as a player. This is the part of the research that will take the longest. Many of the older files from 40's and early 50's are gone meaning I have to look at each player and match them with the team that won the cup that season.

For the goalies, I am looking Career Numbers in Wins, Losses, GAA, Save %. The goalies stats from the playoffs will include Wins, Losses, GAA, and Save % as well. My goal is to have this completed by early August but this project could easily be done by fall depending how this goes. To make life a little easier for myself, I have one criteria each player must have to be on the list. A skater has to have played 500 regular season games and a goalie needs to have played 250 regular season games. Otherwise I don't put them on the list. So the players who played less than that won't be credited for their Stanley Cup ring either because they did not play 500 regular games. It's cruel but if I don't do it this way I will be working on this project a lot longer than I would like.

So there you have it.
